Debian Gnome + Beryl "3D-Desktop"
Video Uploaded by: germanize83
Video Description:
Debian GNU/Linux with Gnome Desktop running Beryl/AIGLX for 3D desktop effects. Debian version was "etch" ("testing" at that time).
System:
AMD64 3500+, 1024 DDR2-400, Geforce 6600GT
(but it runs on very old machines, try it out)
You can get all themes, styles, icons etc. on gnome-look dot org. The dockbar at the top is part of "gDesklets" (available on official repositories).
On gnome-look dot org, search for...
"dragon" (wallpaper)
"glassy" (icon set)
"dark" (color theme, I don't remeber the exact name)
You can install everything with the default gnome theme manager.
There are a lot of users posting "this is ubuntu" - it's not! The menu icon was part of the default ubuntu icon set I installed before (the new "glassy" icon set does not replace the menu button).

Very very easy to install and to configure.
There are easy linux editions like Ubuntu.
All you need is to click Install>next>next>next> wait 10-15minutes > FINISH
Fedora also isn't so complicated.
It isn't bad.
I am using Ubuntu Hardy and Fedora 8, both are good.
I tried Slackware, many Ubuntu variants, PCLOS etc.
And I am thinking to switch on Debian (or Slackware). Ubuntu is good, but I want now something more complicated.
Beryl, Compiz and Compiz Fusion all work with minimal RAM usage. I never exceed 22% RAM usage no matter how many desktop effects I have switched on.
Linux is the most efficient OS out there. Do not believe? Check out what OS the Roadrunner (the fastest computer to date) is running. Hint: It ain't Windows.
work on a ppentium 3
They don't want money
The OS never freezes
And there are no viruses
!!!!!!
WHY USE WINDOWS?????????????
And uh, all the drivers easy to find?
Overall how did it run, did you play any games?
